If I want to upload it to Twitter or somewhere else on social media, I use Handbrake to crunch it down to a more manageable size that's still of a very good quality. When i'm done editing a video which is typically game play captured at a high bit rate, the final video tends to be quite large. Brackets sudo snap install brackets -classic Handbrake It's from the all conquering Adobe but unlike many other offerings from them, it's free. Inkscape sudo snap install inkscape Bracketsīrackets is a powerful HTML, CSS and JavaScript editor that I used to perform some of the edits to get this blog up and running. The official site is full of tutorials and other info on how to quickly get up and running with Inkscape. I go into greater detail about Inkscape in an upcoming article but rest assured that this app is just about all you need for vector graphics design. Inkscape is a vector graphics editor that is completely free and exceptionally powerful. Sometimes you want to design your own logo or maybe even make an overlay for OBS to make your stream look better. Telegram sudo snap install telegram-desktop Inkscape Until that day, i'll continue enjoy having Telegram on my Windows desktop, iPhone, macOS, Ubuntu and even on my iPad when I still had it. I closed my Facebook account recently and would love to get rid of WhatsApp completely but that's easier said than done. I use Telegram a lot instead of WhatsApp for a variety of reasons. It's not available in the Ubuntu app store but is easily installed following the instructions on the Planner website. Planner is a free app that helps me plan my schedule despite my best efforts at being lazy. Mailspring sudo snap install mailspring PlannerĪ personal task manager is very important for me since I tend to be scatter brained and forgetful at the best of times. I don't need any of the pro features so the free version is perfect for me. The standard version is free but the Pro version is also available for a monthly fee. It has a very clean design and does the basics well. I use Mailspring instead of the default Thunderbird email client on Ubuntu. Discord sudo snap install discord Mailspring It's free, very simple to install and setup and works on the majority of desktop and mobile platforms. Reliable and clear voice communication is critical for team gaming and I use Discord for all the games that I play. OBS Studio sudo snap install obs-studio Discord Only issue is that the version of OBS Studio that's available via the Ubuntu app store refuses to "see" the NDI plugin I use for my two-PC setup but the easy fix for this is detailed in another upcoming article. I use it on my two-PC streaming setup and it works exactly the way I want it to. It's free, highly customizable and not too difficult to use. OBS Studio is the go to app for the majority of streamers. This is a short list, in no particular order, of my favorite apps for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS: OBS Studio I'll also include the relevant terminal installation command if that's what you prefer using. This means that I get the opportunity to hand pick the exact apps that I need to make my Ubuntu system work for me.Īll apps that I list below are either in the Ubuntu app store unless specified. The problem for me with clean installing is that I use several apps that are not included with a default Ubuntu install. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS was released recently and I did my usual and clean installed it instead of trying to upgrade from 18.04 LTS, realize that something's shagged and then clean install anyway.
